Informative, but anxiety producing

I found Moms on Call to be a great basic guide to baby care. Most of us first time moms and dads do not know much about babies before we have one. I found it very helpful to read all the tips and how-to's for basic baby care such as bathing, nail clipping, and necessary supplies. It made me feel good to be able to have a bathroom cabinet filled with all the necessary baby supplies before my daughter was born. Probably the BEST advice in this book is to swaddle. My daughter is fussy-natured, and if we did not swaddle we would have a nightmare on our hands. My daughter is 8 weeks old, and I often refer back to this book to find out how much formula she should be drinking at a time and other questions. Regretfully, I did NOT take the Moms on Call advice of using Gerber First Essential bottles from the beginning. As a mommy with guilt for not breastfeeding, I purchased the "breast-like" bottles claiming to be just like nursing. Wrong choice. Baby girl was fussy and gassy till we switched to the Gerber First Essential bottles. The straightforward tone of M.O.C. can be annoying, but keeps the book from being too wordy. Don't take the tone personally.

Here is what gets me about the book. Before I had my daughter, I read books like this one and baby-wise that are very schedule based. Although Baby Wise has more to say about the topic of scheduling, M.O.C. presents the theme of "Babies do best on a schedule. The parents should determine when the baby eats and sleeps. If this doesn't happen, you will have a stressful home with a baby who has bad habits." Moms on Call suggests things like stretching out feeds at night, and heavily controlling your child's feeding and sleeping schedule. As one can imagine, this stressed me out to NO END when my daughter simply refused to follow a sleeping schedule. She has a general pattern that she has fallen into at 8 weeks, but that has come with time and with my husband and I learning about and working with her needs. Sadly, I wasted the first 6 weeks of my daughters life feeling like a failure for not being able to get her on a schedule, worried that she was going to be a "bad baby," and spending my days trying to force an infant to do something she just was NOT going to do. What a waste of precious moments! Don't buy into the crock that says you MUST feed your baby and put them down to sleep at the same time every day. Feed them when they are hungry, and put them down when they are sleepy! Moms on Call gave me the idea that I could control more than what was realistic. You might have a baby that fits into the schedule you set for him or her, or you might be like me and have a stubborn baby that is going to have NONE of your efforts to make her sleep when you want to sleep. Do yourself a favor and help your baby get the best sleep and eating pattern down that fits for him/her and don't listen to the sly promise of M.O.C. and Baby Wise that if you do everything right, everything will go as planned.

In conclusion, I am glad I read this book because it gave my husband and I great tips for baby care. ESPECIALLY swaddling and using Gerber First Essential bottles. If you buy this book, use it as a guide, but do not buy into the theme of hyper scheduling. If your baby does fall into the schedules outlined, don't think it's because you are an awesome parent. You have an easy baby. If you're like me and have a fussy baby, don't think you are a failure because you couldn't get baby on a schedule. Do what works, and RELAX! Parenthood is a wild ride, but it will change you for the better!

An Excellent Book For First Time Parents

I purchased this book after recommendations from several friends. Three months in and I can say that this book has been my baby bible. From setting a schedule and typical days to common infant questions and answers, this book has been my easy go-to source for all things baby (well, besides google). Before he was born, I purchased all the items suggested for the infant medicine cabinet and it has been incredibly helpful and prevented numerous runs to the store. Since his birth, I've followed their schedules and they have worked like a charm. At 6 weeks he was sleeping 8 hours at night and at 8 weeks he was sleeping 10 hours at night. He's been sleeping 12 hours at night since around 2 months and while he may be an easy baby, I believe a large part of his sleeping (and my sanity) are due to this book. There are some grammatical errors and whatnot, but the information is there and that is what counts. I plan to use this for any future children and highly recommend it for any first time mom. It is a short book and easy to navigate, which is a plus when you're exhausted beyond belief those first few weeks.

Note: They are proponents of CIO (crying it out) and I am, too. If you're not into the whole CIO thing, then this may not be your cup-o-tea.

Update (5/15/13)- We are now past the 7 month mark and on to the second book in the series. He is still sleeping great and we just had our first cold. I flipped back through the common colds section and it provided some helpful tips that other books didn't provide. Also, because we already had all the stuff on the medicine cabinet list, we didn't have any last minute trips to the store to buy cold stuff. There is an app now, too, which has been awesome as we adjust to each new schedule. I can also send it to the babysitter, my husband, etc. and then everyone knows his schedule and all its details. Anyway, still a great book and 6-12 months is just as good. I only wish that they included some of the second book information earlier. For example- traveling with a baby. Their tips would have been very helpful when traveling the first six months, too. All in all, still a 5-star book.

It helped me so much!

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to improve their vocabulary, especially if they are studying for a standardized test (i.e. SAT, PSAT, ACT, etc.). It is filled with words that will possibly show up on these tests, and it is a lot easier (and more interesting) to do the activities in this book than to read a dictionary to learn the words. I used this book in my English class at school and I learned so many new words. Then when I took the SAT, I was thrilled to discover that almost every word on the test had been in this book, and I had only finished half of the book! I'm about to buy this book for myself so that my whole family can use it to help study for any other tests we might take in the future. This book really helped me improve my verbal score, and I definitely think you should try using it, too.

A pretty difficult book, but well written

There are quite a number of great examples in this book. Many of these come from famous poets and writers. However, the author failed to give some of the diffiult ones an explanation. Thus, it seems very difficult to comprehend sometimes. The definition of words is pretty concise. However, if the author had put more effort into introducing this word to the readers, it would make learning a lot more easier. I also suggest that the next edition include a CD Rom because it is very fun to study via multimedia presentation. The exercises in the book are adaquant, but there seems to be a lack of explanation. Sometimes I do find it difficult to understand the answer. I have been n search of good vocabulary books for almost two years. I have not found one yet, but this is certainly one of the good ones that I have.

YOU WON'T FIND A BETTER BOOK

This book is excellent for anyone who wants to master the rich English language. The "workbook" approach, at first glance, may make you feel a bit awkward, but it's extremely useful and highly effective. What I particularly liked about the book is the wonderful succint information(little stories) on the various origins of common English words. By knowing the origin, a word is better learned and is registered quickly in our memory. This book is really worth its price.

A Great Resource

Math on Kindle has been a great resource for me. Although I have previous experience as a Flash developer, I hadn't gotten around to working with vector images inside of eBooks yet. This book will give you all the necessary code needed for inserting SVG images in your eBook along with the fallback code (complete with media queries) required for making legacy Kindle eReaders incapable of displaying SVG images automatically use GIF images instead. And much, if not all, of the code can also be used with ePub files. If you're an eBook formatter, this will save you a bundle of time and pain trying to figure things out on your own. Highly recommended!

Finally, a very good reference for resizable equations formatting in kindle format!
For years I have been reading, in kdp forum as well as others, that ebooks were nothing for math and science ebooks, due to their poor support for equations. With kindle format now partly supporting svg format, it is possible to format nicely resizable equations, even in kindle format. There is far too much discussion, so not really clear what needs to be done to get equations to show up correctly. I decided to roll my own instead of trying to crack this book. I'm guessing that it does contain some useful information.

Initially excited, but ultimately felt like I was being "sold" to. Book is one big advertisement for other products.

I follow Lauren Greutman's blog and have always been inspired by her story. So, I was extremely excited to get my hands on this book, I even pre-ordered it! I loved the first half of the book; getting to know more about her story and the details of the financial crisis she had gotten her family into. It was all so easy to relate to. (Even though it could all be found in blog posts on her blog) I noticed there were a few mentions of her website and the other products she offered. Once we got to the steps, I was really excited. I don't know what I was expecting -- I guess some extremely world changing ideas. Naive of me. The steps are along the same format you would get from any financial course or coach.

What really turned me off from the book and ultimately led to me putting it down at Step 7 was the several plugs for her other products. Each chapter seemed to be an advertisement for her Financial Revolution Community. Frustrated, I started to flip back through what I've read and each chapter had a reference back to her website or contained a URL for a product on her website. I felt like I was being sold to, even though I had already made a purchase. On top of that, I ordered her Financial Planner (for $50!) two months ago, and still haven't received it. So, I will be asking for a refund there.

If you are truly at rock bottom and have NO idea where to turn and have a few dollars on your pocket, it may be worth the purchase. Better yet, wait for it to be released at your local library. Or I will sell you mine. And rather than pay the $129 to join the community; spend $90 and attend a local Financial Peace University class by Dave Ramsey - THAT is life changing.

THIS IS REAL LIFE! Finally, a relatable, practical and proven way to change your habits and get yourself out of debt!

I have to admit, I purchased this with a bit of skepticism. I have read many a budgeting/saving/financial peace book trying to find something that would work for my family. Most are very fact filled, form filled, and rather boring. Its like going to school again and would put me into a "I am likely to fall asleep at my desk as the professor drones on" mood. NOT WITH THIS BOOK!!
I began to flip through pages when I received it. First thing I noticed was that the writing style was casual and easy to read. It was not stiff, clinical, and boring. I had a few minutes to spare, so I sat down to read the first few pages..... suddenly, an hour had passed. It reads THAT easy!
Lauren tells her story from the beginning, telling not just the happy stuff, but the nitty gritty details, emotions, and events that led her to where she is now. There is nothing glamorized in her descriptions. She tells it like it is.
Her story is laid out and reads like she was sitting there with you, telling her story in person. A real person. Speaking directly to you. You see her life unfold with nothing held back or glossed over. I had several "I thought I was the only one" moments as I perused the pages. It is the kind of wake-up call I needed.
What is even better is the straightforward way she presents her method of getting out of debt. Its a no b.s. plan. Its not glossy and flashy. It really makes you look in the mirror and evaluate yourself and your choices. Its real and its not easy and its not pleasant, but it works. It was also something I can share with my finance-a-phobic husband so we can work together.
Her story is empowering. Learning from her is as easy as two friends talking over coffee. There is no feeling like you are being talked down to or patronized because you got yourself in a bind. I finally feel like I found the plan that works for my family and helps me get a handle on our finances.
I cannot say how much I appreciate Lauren & Mark for opening up their lives in order for the rest of us to turn our lives around as well.
This book is a game changer - a life changer!

This book is a big sales pitch!

The first half of this book was interesting though not all that helpful. The author tells the story of how she got into so much debt and glosses over how she got out of debt. She makes a big case for knowing your values and stresses how her values include staying home with her kids (as if my mommy guilt o er working to pay off our debts wasn't high enough).

But what really turned me off about this book is that the second half is an overt upsell. Every single page tells you how great her online community is and how wonderful and supportive the community members are. She gives success story after success story never (of course) telling how many people don't succeed with her program.

I think it's totally disingenuous to sell a book for spenders with the guise of helping them to stop spending - and then make a strong upsell in said book. I wouldn't recommend this book to any spender.

Sweet book. Easy read. Good info. It's not a must have if you know a lot of stones and much of this info can be found even on Google. However, it's a good addition, and definitely good for beginners who are just getting into crystals for sure. I finished it, passed it to my sister..... then passed it on to my twin flame ❤❤❤
