An absolute win

The best and most useful triage book I have found. Actually the most fact filled and realistic nursing education book I've seen. I've been in nursing 25 years, have my CEN, and found Polly's book such a relief from theories and nursing care planning that wastes space. This book gives you the facts, your actions, and the reasons behind them. I've worn out the first book and am about to buy a second one.

Although basic as the title suggests, it is an excellent text with lots of problems and explanations for those requiring a technician's understanding of practical electricity using ELECTRON FLOW. One can breadboard a lot of these circuits and test circuit analysis concepts. Don't expect an electrical engineering circuit analysis book; for that purpose, get Mr. Van Valkenburgh's Engineering Circuits, or Bobrow's excellent Elementary Circuit Analysis and Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering.

This book is definitely the most informative basic electricity book that I have found, and it is also the easiest to understand and follow. It starts at the very basics of electricity and then introduces new concepts in a logical, easy to follow manner. About the Author
Frank V. Cespedes is the MBA Class of 1973 Senior Lecturer of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. Great summary / reference guide

This book is great for specific audiences, but will leave others unsatisfied and wanting more.

Pros:
-Very good overview for someone new to sales or with a narrow role trying to expand their understanding of how their individual selling role fits into the broader company. Provides a survey course of all the key sub-functions / adjacent functions and how they are critical for a successful sales operation (finance, HR, compensation, incentive systems, sales operations, recruitment, training, management, marketing, etc.). This book will allow the reader to understand how the different pieces of the machine interact and operate with a more nuanced understanding of their organization.
-For more seasoned executives, individuals with a critical interface with sales, or those middle managers looking to expand their roles, this book acts as a checklist to ensure best in class behavior. Each chapter should produce a number of opportunities to evaluate yourself against best in class and identify ways in which your current model may not be totally aligned.
-For an academic this book is exceedingly practical and real-world rather than pie in the sky ideas. It understands that sales is not easy or totally controllable and does not suggest "consulting" solutions.

Limitations:
-The book intentionally takes a very high level perspective. An individual looking to go deep on any one topic or to get the latest innovation in management thinking should look for best of breed books elsewhere.
-Cespedes at times can be a long-winded writer, taking a bit longer than the reader would like on specific topics often not core to sales

This is a book that dives down deep in the sales process and does an excellent job of relating basic strategy concepts. As a sales leader I can see myself coming back to this book down the road. I believe the real value add from the book are the chapters on people (sales people and and sales manager) management. I'm not sure there were any "aha" moments in the book, hence the lack of a 5 star rating, but it's a solid effort that adds dimensions to a complicated topic.

About the Author

John Stredwick is a writer and consultant in human resources, specialising in reward and flexible working practices. He spent 25 years as an HR practitioner, including experience in publishing, shipbuilding and building services with 11 years as Head of HR at Everest Double Glazing. From 1992 until 2010, he was Senior Lecturer and Head of CIPD studies at Bedfordshire University. He has taught in Singapore and Dubai, and was Visiting Professor at the London campus of Websters University.

My edition of this book is from 1986, but it is still relevant today. It contains special, detailed information pertinent to business managers. Although I am not one, I still found it relevant.

In the Silva Method we learn how to activate the right hemisphere of our brain by going to Alpha, where our brain waves pulsate at between 7 and 14 cycles per second. When we are in this state it is easier to programme for what we want in life with good effect.

We learn how to use subjective communication with those with whom we are having difficulties. This form of communication is also done in Alpha, and is much more effective than objective communication (which is ordinary verbal communication).

We go to our alpha level at night and programme to awake at the best time to programme for this problem person. When we wake up automatically, we go to our level again and imagine we are talking to him about the problem in a kind and loving way. We also move the picture slightly to the left and see the person drinking whatever he usually drinks. You programme him to activate the new, desired behaviour with every sip he takes,

We learn various techniques to effectivize our programming with our co-workers,

We must have both desire, expectation and belief if our programming is to work. This is the basic concept.

We can prepare for a successful meeting with an important person by, for example, in Alpha, visualizing an expert, who will act as a consultant, by our side. We talk to the important person and present our concepts and ideas to him/her. We should consult with the expert if we are in doubt as to which points to cover. Ask, and ideas will come to us. Present these to the important person mentally. See him/her reacting favourably and positively to our presentation. He or she is receptive, understands the points we are covering, and accepts the proposal.

The right hemisphere is our connection to the non-physical plane. This is the realm of Higher Intelligence. The “expert” is symbolic of this greater intelligence to which we have access.

The two main principles behind successful subjective communication are 1) Communicate at Alpha 2) Communicate as if you and the recipient were one. We are part of an intelligence continuum that permeates the universe. We are all one. Jos� knew this, even back then. When using subjective communication, avoid polarity. Avoid statements that put down or criticize. Communicate what is right, rather than who is right. Be truthful, be fair, be aboveboard.

I found this book to be more advanced and complicated than Jos�’s other books on the Silva Method, with many specific techniques and procedures suitable for use in a business with its own form of problems and potential difficulties. The programming we learn must always be beneficial for all concerned. If not, it will not work.

It will be extremely useful for the business manager, who will by means of these techniques be able to communicate effectively with all his co-workers and business partners/contacts in a positive and helpful way, including changing to new, more acceptable, forms of behaviour.

The book explains all the basic Silva techniques, but it may advisable to begin with a couple of the more basic books, such as “The Silva Mind Control method”, or “How to get help from your other side”.

I thoroughly recommend this book to all business managers or the like.

very good- seminal.

It amazes me that these methods aren't taught in business schools. The people at the top of the business world all use these methods, in one form or another, though they don't talk about them. Here's a secret: top sports performers, those that aren't doing drugs, also use these methods, all of them, but they won't talk about it, as they see them as a secret edge. This is a very useful book for business managers, too bad it doesn't seem to be in print any more. I wish more Silva people wrote good books like this. I took a course I now know to be a knockoff of Silva in 1980. It was lifechanging. Wow. I wish I'd been exposed to this in high school- no, in elementary school. It is fantastic. So many other teachers, from Shakti Gawain, I think even Wayne Dwyer, started off w/Jose. I mention comparable books because that's what I like most in a review- please mention comparable books in your reviews. I have found gems that way. I think You the Healer: The World-Famous Silva Method on How to Heal Yourself and Others is more detailed, if you really want to learn it. The Future Is Yours: Do Something About It! was written by a former Silva instructor, ok it's his own stuff, however it gives you an idea of what can be done with this. Amazing Secrets of Psychic Healing makes a lot more sense if you have a Silva background. Dowsing and Manifesting has some elements of Silva in it, well they aren't direct copies. Matrix Energetics: The Science and Art of Transformation gives you some ideas about what is possible in the deeper mind levels Jose talks about, as does Theta Healing: Introducing an Extraordinary Energy Healing Modality. I sent You the Healer to a friend of mine, married to a Mexican-American woman. She immediately went through all 40 days of it, loved it. I have no connection to any Silva organization, I just happen to like their stuff. This book is very good, and well worth getting.
