About the Author
As a registered nurse for the last 28 years, my primary clinical expertise for the last 24 years has been working in the pre-hospital environment as a flight nurse and a paramedic, as well as continuing to work in a variety of clinical areas which include the emergency department, pediatrics and endoscopy. My extensive clinical background has also given me the opportunity to work as a legal nurse consultant with one of the largest law firms in Arizona. As an EMS educator and program director of paramedic training programs for the last 20 years and most recently for the last 5 years as the National Clinical Educator for one of the largest air medical transport companies, I truly enjoy teaching in a simple manner as to assure that students do have a strong basic understanding in making critical care decisions and that they will be providing the highest quality of patient care beginning from the least to the most invasive management of care for the patients they are transporting. My goal as a professional and as an EMS educator has always been and will continue to encourage students to have the desire to learn and grow in their profession, as well as contribute to EMS in way that inspires positive change. I was happy to find that my paramedic program did an excellent ...

I'm taking the CCT course in a couple of months, and purchased this as a primer and to see what I should brush up on before attending. I was happy to find that my paramedic program did an excellent job at some non-flight/non-CCT topics. I also found some topics which I need to study. For that purpose, the book worked for me.
However, there were several issues I had with the text. Some are minor - like spelling mistakes or other small typos - sentences that are fragments or skip a thought. The occasional Wikipedia reference in the middle of the answers (linking to an actual reference listed in the end notes, but still an editing mistake) was amusing. There were some larger issues, though. I found several instances where a question would ask about one topic with possible answers that didn't make any sense, and the explanation would talk about a completely different topic. Then the following question would be related to the previous explanation, but would have it's own, appropriate explanation.
As long as you don't mind some editing errors, it is a good book for the price.

Fantastic book.

A very good book for FP-C and CFRN. An important thing for these exams is getting used to the way they ask the questions and Orchids book does a fantastic job at that. There is the occasional typo, or grammatical error but it is other wise very well written. I recommend using this book in conjunction with a FP-C / CFRN prep course. Orchid teaches a fantastic prep class. www.backtobasicscourse.com... If you can't attend on of her classes there are some good online classes you can take. A prep class and going through this book cover to cover 2 or 3 times will set you up to pass which ever exam you are going for … (in my opinion).
The book is great but I feel one needs a basic understanding of Critical Care Transport skills to learn from the book. As an example, the book does a great job of getting your through ABG interpretations. But doesn't really teach you what an ABG actually is. You would need a basic understanding of things like ABG, hemodynamic monitoring, Lab values, Advanced Airway procedures, and other critical care skills for the book to be successful. (again, my opinion).

Best study guide available for FP-C

Great review book. Questions are almost exactly like the ones on the FP-C exam. I studied this book exclusively for 3 weeks until about a week before my test when IAFCCP released their online study tool. I went through it one time and didn't find it to be as helpful except it showed that this book is a little lacking on the CAMTS requirement questions. I studied the CAMTS pdf off their website with Back to Basics for that last week and made a 93 on my first attempt on the test. This is the first product I recommend when people ask me how to study for FP-C/CCP-C.
